Account and privacy
Privacy and online features
Auralyn plays the files and folders you choose. It does not upload your media. A few optional features go online.
What stays on your Mac
Your media files are never uploaded. Listening history and recommendations are kept on your Mac. Mixes and radio are worked out on your Mac from your own library, without a network request or an AI model.
You do not need to be online to play your own files.
Optional online lookups
Three optional lookups go online:
- Lyrics. When a song has no local lyrics file, Auralyn can look up lyrics on LRCLIB (lrclib.net), sending the track title, artist, album and length.
- Artist information. Looked up by artist name on Wikipedia and, when needed, MusicBrainz, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.
- Movie and TV information. Looked up for your videos on TVmaze, Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, using the title and year from each file name (never the file or its path).
How to turn them off
You can turn each of the three lookups off in Settings, under Privacy, Online lookups.
Update checks
The Mac app checks for a new version when it starts and then once a day, by reading a small version file. It sends no library or personal information. Like any web request, it shows the server your IP address and the Auralyn version. You can turn it off in Settings, under About.
Licence checks
Activating a licence needs an internet connection. A Monthly licence checks the licence online from time to time. A Lifetime licence works offline after one online activation.
Scrobbling
Plays are sent to your own Navidrome or Subsonic server only if you turn on scrobbling.
