Using Auralyn

Formats

These are the formats planned for 1.0. They have so far been tested only with short test files on one Mac. We will publish a tested list after real files pass on the release build.

Music

Planned for 1.0: MP3, AAC (.m4a), Apple Lossless (ALAC), FLAC, WAV, AIFF, Opus and Ogg Vorbis.

Lossless music is included: FLAC, Apple Lossless (ALAC), WAV and AIFF are among the formats planned for 1.0.

Video

Planned for 1.0: MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM, including AC-3 and E-AC-3 surround sound (Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus), a choice of audio tracks, and text subtitles from the file or from a separate .srt, .vtt or .ass file.

Dolby, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories. Auralyn is not made, endorsed or certified by Dolby.

Not supported yet

WMA and AVI files, DTS and TrueHD sound (those videos play without sound), picture subtitles such as PGS, and Apple Lossless in .caf files.

These are planned for updates after 1.0.

WMA and AVI files are not indexed yet, so they do not appear in your library.

When a track cannot play

A track that cannot play is skipped with a notice, and the queue carries on.

More

The same lists are on the Auralyn page. If a file you expect to work does not, see troubleshooting.
